Sacramento County Sheriff's Air Squadron
About Us Brief History The Sacramento County Sheriff's Air Squadron was formed in 1941 by Eugene Hughes, who was also the first commander. It has been in continuous operation since that time. Members are Pilots Who are Willing to Contribute to the Community Members of the Squadron make their aircraft and pilot skills available to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department, plus contribute in a number of additional ways. We currently have over 50 aircraft available as well as the pilots to fly them. In addition to contributing aircraft time and pilot skills, members of the Squadron attend a 40 hour PC 832 Basic Law Enforcement Course (with optional 24 hour additional training), and a number of members are qualified as Reserve Deputies for the Department. Air Squadron Meetings The Squadron conducts regular meetings on the 3rd Wednesday of each month. Meetings are sometimes held at "the Hut", which is a historical building located at the Sacramento Executive airport and which is dedicated to Squadron activities. Some meetings are also held at "fly-out" locations, such as at Pine Mountain Lake, Napa, Mojave, more. Members fly their aircraft to such meetings. Air Squadron Leadership and Membership The Squadron is governed by the Board of Directors, Commander, Vice Commander, and Secretary and Treasurer. The Commander, Vice Commander, and Secretary and Treasurer are elected positions that are determined at the November change of command meeting. The Squadron has a limit on membership and has specific requirements of applicants; however, it is always looking for new members that may be able to contribute to the Squadron's activities. If you are interested in joining the Squadron please visit the Contact Us page and send us a communication. |
